The mission of public interest is used for processing necessary for the execution of:

  • A mission of public interest, or

  • A mission related to the exercise of official authority to which the data controller is subject.

It is mainly used by public authorities with powers of public authority to fulfill their mission of general interest.

When to choose the mission of public interest as the legal basis?

  • The data controller must be a public authority or a private entity that pursues a mission of public interest or is vested with public power prerogatives.

  • The processing must be necessary for the execution of the mission with which the organization is entrusted.

  • The legal basis of the processing must be derived from the law to which the data controller is subject. It can be a law, a regulation, a decree, etc.
